Mokwena urges beneficiaries to take care of donations

Lobatse deputy mayor, Mr Francis Mokwena has urged beneficiaries and caretakers to take care of donations to sustain them for longer periods.

Speaking at the handing over of wheelchairs at Peleng recently, Mr Mokwena said taking care of donations showed appreciation to donors. He added that donors also felt honoured for their generosity.

The deputy mayor applauded the Rotary Club for helping the less privileged and urged them to extend the same benevolence to other communities. Rotary Club president, Mr Tiyapo Ngwisanyi said their organisation was part of Rotary International.

Mr Ngwisanyi indicated that they had four branches in Botswana which included Lobatse, Gaborone Selebi-Phikwe and Francistown and focused mainly on health issues, education and other social matters.

He said their organisation had also donated computers to Peleng Primary School in 2011 as well as blankets and clothes to the community through Lobatse Town Council as part of their social responsibility. The Lobatse Rotary club project coordinator, Ms Boitshepho Tumagole said beneficiaries were identified with the help of Health Education Assistants and different clinics in Lobatse.

Ms Tumagole said they visited the community to appreciate their different needs hence the seven wheelchairs; five of which were given to elders and the remaining two to children. Mrs Jane Mhlanga, who taking care of her aging and ailing mother, applauded the Rotary Club helping the needy.

She said the wheelchair would relieve them of the hardships they encountered when transporting their mother to the hospital for her routine check-ups. ENDS
