Government values kgotla setup
02 Mar 2015
Botswana Housing Corporation (BHC) deputy chief executive officer, Mr Nkaelang Matenge says government values the kgotla setup.
Officially opening tribal offices and leobo at Maralaleng in Kgalagadi District, Mr Matenge indicated that the kgotla was a place where all Batswana met to learn about botho; a pillar he said had seen the country being a shining example of democracy and peace.
He also noted that it was at the kgotla where discussions on village development were held. Thus, Mr Matenge said BHC was glad to help government on developing the nation, hence their donation of computers to Maralaleng customary court for ease of communication.
The offices were built at the tune of P500 000 and completed over a two-year period. Mr Matenge also donated a multi-purpose printer and an executive chair to Kgosi David Megano of Maralaleng.
Earlier when welcoming guests, Kgosi Megano applauded BHC of their donations, saying the offices and leobo would come in handy in their kgotla meetings and serving the community.
He further said the multi-purpose printer would help them because they used to travel a long distance to Tsabong when they wanted to print or fax some documents.
Tsabong sub-council chairman, Mr Meleko Thumpe urged residents of Maralaleng to take good care of the offices at all times.
Mr Thumpe also contended that all issues related to the village were discussed at the kgotla and thus everyone must all take part in kgotla proceedings whenever they were called by their kgosi. ENDS
