Official warns residents against selling land
26 Feb 2015
Residents of Borolong have been advised not to sell their land but rather to reserve it for future generations.
Officiating at a recent road show, the Tonota Sub-land Board secretary, Mr Nicholas Motlogelwa said land was a legacy and hence should be wisely used so that it could move from generation to generation.
He explained that the objective of the road show was to educate and inform residents about the misuse of land and to bring services to them instead of them travelling a long distance to Tonota. He further went on to explain the disadvantages of misusing land saying that land could be improperly used either by selling it, transferring and increasing the plot size allocated.
Mr Motlogelwa said people often sold their plots and end up without having anything, to a point where some of them are forced to move in with their parents. He pleaded with residents who own business land to cooperate with their department in paying for their leases.
For her part, Ms Peninah Rute also advised the residents to use the day and the opportunity brought to them as a way of enquiring about anything that they would want to know. She also cautioned residents against blocking passages between plots saying the passages were created for a reason.
Meanwhile, the Tonota Sub land Board deputy chairperson ,Mr Buzwani Ngada urged residents to stop giving away their land. He informed them that if they choose to sell their land they should forget about ever being allocated land again by the sub-landboard. ENDS
