Assistant minister of Health, Dr Alfred Madigele has said there is no provision in the National Development Plan 10 for the construction of another hospital in Gaborone.
Answering a question in Parliament, he said notwithstanding the above, several initiatives are ongoing in the Ministry to decongest Princess Marina Hospital.
These, he said include establishing centres of excellence (diabetic clinic),introduction of chronic medication program by private pharmacies, devolution of antenatal care services and normal deliveries to the clinics, opening of 24 hours clinics in Gaborone and continuous public awareness on utilization of the referral hospital.
He said the ongoing construction of a 450 bedded university teaching hospital which is scheduled to open this year will also assist in decongesting Princess Marina Hospital.
Gaborone North MP, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa had asked if there are any plans to construct another hospital in Gaborone as the population has over grown existing clinics and referral hospital. ENDS
