The Assistant minister of Local Government and rural Development, Mr Frans Van Der Westhuizen has told Parliament that Monong Village Kgosi is the only kgosi in the Kgalagadi North Constituency who has not been elevated from Headman of Arbitration to Headman of Records.

He said due to budgetary constraints and other factors including population and the nearest village, his ministry currently has no plans to upgrade Monong as the village has low crime rates and is currently serviced by Hunhukwe which is only 10 kilometres away.

Mr Van Der Westhuizen said his ministry will however consider upgrading Monong headman of arbitration to that of records in the future funds permitting. Kgalagadi North MP, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi had asked the minister if he is aware that Monong Kgosi is the only kgosi in the constituency who has not be elevated to the position of headman of records.
