After hearing about poverty eradication programme from a social worker who had visited their small village of Maleshe, few kilometres from Tsabong, Ms Goabaone Kgannyeng aged, 37, never wasted time and immediately applied to be assisted under the programme.
“After the social worker had explained to me how the programme works, I started developing interest in starting my own business and I identified bakery as the area I wanted to venture into,” said delighted Ms Kgannyeng.
She explained that she was assessed in 2012 and qualified to be assisted with bakery products.
Ms Kgannyeng is now one of the poverty eradication programme beneficiaries who have been assisted with bakery products to kick start her dreams of owning her own business which she started in 2013.
She explained that she chose bakery because she developed interest in baking at a tender age.
“I always wanted to know just how baking cakes, scones, biscuits was done and why people choose to bake instead of doing some other things other than baking,” said the mother of three.
She explained that baking was not new to her as she used to bake scones and sell them in her village, but at a smaller scale.
“Right now I have started writing my new and unique recipe because I want to provide my customers with something different,” she stated.
Ms Kgannyeng said in 2012, she attended a week long workshop to learn business management in Tsabong and later went to Maun for two weeks.
She said training helped her a lot as she got to understand more about business management.
“During my training at Tsabong and Maun, I had the opportunity to be exposed to all the business management processes and phases though it was challenging and new to me,” she said.
The Junior Certificate holder said her business was operating at her home as she was still looking for suitable and better place .
She said currently her business was limited because she could not do everything in a one room house and stated that as soon as she secured a proper place, she would expand.
Ms Kgannyeng further explained that space and shortage of water experienced in the village was disadvantaging her business because she could not realise her wish of supplying schools. ENDS
