Botswana’s finest boxers will go pound for pound in what is considered a thrilling weekend in the Botswana Boxing Association’s calendar.

The Best of the Best tournament is expected to offer the local elite boxers a chance to go for the jugular and claim superiority in their respective title ranks at the University of Botswana student centre on Saturday, February 21.

Despite staging this year’s tournament without a sponsor, BoBA has lined up mouthwatering bouts not to be missed by any boxing fanatic. 

In what can be referred to as the pick of the weekend is a tussle in the 52kg division where African champion and Commonwealth games medalist Oteng Oteng has a mammoth task against Thabiso Mpolokeng.

Despite his popularity and phenomenal record inside the ring OT as Oteng is affectionately called has been on a slump in form struggling against boxers wet behind the ears.

Another high octane action is expected in the same weight category when impressive SSKB boxer Onkarabile ‘Scara’ Mothibedi takes on Keaobaka Motsebe of Lobatse. Scara is one boxer who is a great body puncher enabling him to throw in flashing fists and brilliant defensive footwork.

In the 60kg division on form youngster Kabelo Bagwasi will entertain Motlatsi Mokobeng from Selibe Phikwe while Alpheus Farmer from Thebephatshwa will lie in wait for Basha Motlhale of Prison. 

Farmer lost to Bagwasi in a inter club tournament and it remains to be seen whether the two will offer a rematch.

Kabelo’s elder brother is engaged in another 64kg match against Atang Mosenke while Ookeditse Bobeilwe will face Tshephang Babui. One of the most interesting matches will be the 69kg semifinals. Mmusi Tswiige takes on Keoagile Rantutu in the first thriller before the former Masunga wonder kid Lentswe Zwinila face off University of Botswana’s Mothusi Moitoi. 

Tswiige is a great tactician with a vast arsenal including one of the greatest left hooks to be seen locally. Rantutu also packs a great jab despite his small frame he is also a brilliant defensive fighter.

In other bouts lines up for the day the closely contested 75kg division pits Sianga Rodgers against Botshelo Robby while Kenneth Kotswle will wait for the eventual winner. 

Zibani Chikanda will also have to wait for the winner in the 81kg bout between Criswell Jongwe and Thabang Motsewabeng. 

The heavy weight division will host Tsenang Mohuhutso and Oteng Phatshwe.

In the ladies finals, Joyce Katlholo takes on Warabile Kgopolo, Dipugiso Koketso faces Rhoda Maswabi while Keneilwe Rakhudu takes on Tshephang Moilwa amongst others.

The tournament finals will be on Sunday.  ENDS
