No plans for alternative abattoir

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development has no plans to construct an abattoir in the South East District to provide an alternative service following the closure of the Gaborone Town Council Abattoir.
Local Government and Rural Development Assistant Minister, Mr Frans Van Westhuizen said in Parliament that the Ministry had taken a decision that in future, abattoirs be constructed by private sector.
He said this was in support of government’s efforts to ensure private sector participation in driving the economy. Ramotswa MP, Mr Samuel Rantuana had asked when an alternative abattoir would be constructed in the South East District following the closure of the Gaborone Town Council Abattoir. ENDS
