Local Enterprise Authority (LEA) Maun branch acting manager, Mr Noseko Keemetsekgosi has said through their strategic plan of 2014/2017 they now assist entrepreneurs within diverse sectors.

Mr Keemetsekgosi said during LEA market day and roadshow with relevant stakeholders to familiarise the public with the services they offer in Maun on Tuesday February 17. He noted that LEA was initially geared towards assisting entrepreneurs in horticulture, leather works and dairy farmers but Batswana pleaded to be assisted in various sectors thus the new strategy implemented last year.

Officiating at the event, Maun Administration deputy chairman, Mr Nico Folae said partnerships between LEA and its stakeholders were critical for LEA to achieve its mandate whose aim is to cultivate the culture of entrepreneurship amongst local enterprises.

“SMMEs are the engines of economic development in all countries in the world. They drive innovation, stimulate a country’s equitable growth and create self-employment to cease the challenge of unemployment,” he said.

Mr Folae also commended LEA for the 2014-2017 strategic plan which allows the organisation to offer entrepreneurship mentorship to all sectors of the economy as compared to the agricultural focused one.

Other stakeholders were Ministry of Youth Sports and Culture, CEDA, financial institutions and entrepreneurs who interacted with the public. ENDS
