'Use water sparingly'
16 Feb 2015
Kgosi Daniel Mathiba of Mmathethe in the Southern District has raised concern about residents who do not use water sparingly.
Speaking during a kgotla meeting he addressed in Mmathethe on February 12, Kgosi Mathiba said it was disappointing to see people fetching water from community water tanks to water their livestock. Therefore, he called on the residents to use water cautiously and stick to agreed measures aimed at curbing water wastage.
For his part, councillor for Mmathethe, Mr Samuel Morolong shared the same sentiments with Kgosi Mathiba that water crisis in Mmathethe was of great concern. He said failure to use water sparingly did not reflect cooperation amongst them.
As a result, he pleaded with residents to keep an eye on people who fetched water with big tanks and report any deviation from the initial agreement of five 20 litres daily ration per household. When commenting, one of the residents, Ms Lesedi Mabote expressed displeasure at livestock that roam the village of Mmathethe and caused damages to property. Ms Mabote also stressed that residents should stand their ground and report cases of misuse so that wrong doers could be dealt with accordingly.
For her part, Water Utilities plant attendant, Mrs Agnes Mabei said the residents should report any problem they encounter regarding the water pipes, and she promised that her department would replace stolen water taps. ENDS
