Mahalapye has 144 kilometers of internal roads, of which 64 kilometers are bitumised and 80 kilometers are gravel roads.
Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, said in response to parliamentary question that it was not true that there were no internal roads in Mahalapye.
However, Ms Tshireletso said she was “aware of the poor condition of some of these roads which are prone to flooding during the rainy season.”
She said the Mahalapye Drainage Master Plan was completed and tendered for in 2009, but was amongst the projects that were deferred country wide due to the economic downturn in 2009.
This project, she said, would be considered amongst the proposals for projects that will be considered for implemented in NDP 11.Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked her if she is aware that there are no internal roads at Mahalapye and that the exiting gravel roads are prone to flooding and this hampered development in the area.
He also wanted to know when the minister will implement the Mahalapye Storm Water Drainage Master Plan since the project design was completed and tendered for in 2009. ENDS
