Poor turn up forces AGM cancellation

The Botswana Darts Association on Saturday 14 cancelled its annual general meeting (AGM) because some teams failed to send representatives to the Botswana College Agriculture meeting.
As per the association’s constitution, the AGM could not proceed owing to the fact that they did not form a quorum. The constitution stated that at least seven of the 10 registered affiliates should attend the AGM but in this case, only three clubs turned up.
Moreover, each of the clubs was requested to send two representatives of which if clubs decides to send one the attendance is deemed void.
Speaking following cancellation of the AGM, the association public relations officer, Motsholathebe Kutoro, stated that this was not the first time the association had to cancel an AGM. He attributed the low attendance to lack of commitment from affiliates adding that they had sent invitation way ahead of the AGM and all the affiliates acknowledged receipt.
However he said as per the constitution the association was allowed to hold another AGM in two weeks and the constitution allowed the AGM to proceed whether they form quorum or not the meeting.
Kutoro despite being an old sport in Botswana, darts is still lagging behind in terms of following as some people still associate it with bars and alcohol outlets. He said the association has drafted a strategy which calls for commitment amongst the affiliates by challenging them to put the house in order before they could even go out and market the association.
He said they are lobbying BNSC to give them a plot where they will build facilities that would be suitable for young players at as at the moment they depend on police and BDF bars. This he said has disadvantaged them in that the facilities do not favour youngsters as they are not allowed at such outlets. “People have to understand that in darts , like other codes, does not encourage alcohol drinking in any way hence us trying by all means to distance ourselves from alcohol outlets.” ENDS
