Ba Isago University College in Francistown has undertaken a community outreach programme by donating children’s books to Francistown SOS children`s village.
Officially handing over the books on February 14 at SOS Children’s Village, Ba Isago campus manager, Ms Gertrude Kachere expressed her sincere gratitude to the SOS family for allowing them to share the day of love with them. Ms Kachere highlighted that the donation was blessed as it was handed on Valentine’s Day which many people use to share love with their loved ones.
She mentioned that education was key to success; hence they offered books for them to acquire knowledge. Ms Kachere said they had built a relationship with the village which no one could erase.
Student welfare and support officer from Ba Isago College, Ms Queen Chinyerere said their school was a high learning institution, and that it was also their mandate to reach out to the community and give back.
Ms Chinyerere noted that their reaching out was also a way of putting a smile on the faces of boys and girls so that they could have joy in their lives forever. She further said the theme, “One Book,” One Dream” could turn their dreams into reality.
Consequently, she said with those books, they wanted to encourage the children to read every day and not only read for examination or home works. She said with their building dreams, SOS had laid a foundation on the library because they care about vulnerable children in their society.
SOS social worker, Mr Petrus Mmualefhe appreciated the books and said they support and take care of 170 children. Mr Mmualefhe said their village consists of numerous family houses, which were youth houses, children houses and also family houses.
He stated that they also had a family strengthening programs aimed at providing care and support to the vulnerable children at their families of origin He said they care for children aged 0-25 ages and was dependent entirely on members of the community for assistance. ENDS
