Govt values good employeremployee relations

12 Feb 2015

The improved employer/employee relations that involve management of the relationship between the employer and the employees forms part of government strategy to address labour productivity.

Minister of Labour and Home Affairs Mr Edwin Batshu said in Parliament that management of the relationship was to a large extent about adherence by employers and employees to labour laws, and prevention and resolution of grievances or disputes which arise in the workplace.

Mr Batshu said Parliament passed laws and policies that support good employer/employee relations, while government also established support structures aimed at improving employer/employee relations.

Such structures, he said included Labour and Factory Inspectorates, Panel of Mediators and Arbitrators, Industrial Court and Public Service Bargaining Council. The minister further noted that government also established Employee Relations Divisions in different ministries to facilitate constructive engagement between the employer and its employees.

Maun West MP, Mr Tawana Moremi had asked whether improved employer/employee relations did not form part of the government strategy to address labour productivity. ENDS
