Ministry to electrify Khwee school

The Ministry of local Government and Rural Development will, through the Central District Council, electrify Khwee Primary School and 18 other schools in the district in the next financial year.

Answering a question in Parliament, the Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso, said the Central District Council had planned to install solar power for the electrification of the schools at an estimated cost of P2. 5 million. 

Ms Tshireletso further said the total annual cost for operating the two generators that are used at Khwee Primary School is approximately P414 000, while the initial purchase of the older JCB generator purchased in 2010 was at a cost of P280 000 and the newer Lovol generator purchased in 2014 cost P250 000.

She said the combined service costs are P150 000 while the cost of fuel, salaries and overtimes are P202 000 P25 000 and P36 000 respectively.

Ms Tshireletso stated that the daily maintenance and operational costs have been derived from the cost of salaries and overtime paid to technical officers who are responsible for the operations of the generators.

Boteti East MP, Mr Sethomo Lelatisitswe had asked about the total costs to date of operating a generator at Khwee Primary School. He also wanted the initial cost of purchase for fuel, maintenance, operators and all other related costs and further wanted to know how much it would  cost to connect electricity instead. ENDS
