Sport builds character refreshes mind

Palapye Sub-district sports coordinator, Oarabile Nkwe, says sport is capable of developing and building the nation.
He was speaking during a closing ceremony of a weeklong workshop for Tswapong region preliminary coaching course for football clubs in Palapye recently.
Nkwe said sport played an important role in refreshing the mind, developing performance in a child and build an individual’s character. He further acknowledged Tswapong football region for doing well.
Already, he said Motlakase Power Dynamos football club was playing in the be Mobile Premier League while Palapye All Stars were playing in the Debswana First Division league-North.
Nkwe also pointed out that coaches had opportunities to groom youngsters who will tomorrow produce results for the national team with the skills taught. He said coaches should teach players honesty, team work, respect and leadership skills that would help them achieve a lot in life.
Nkwe urged Tswapong region to have structures in place that could share ideas and programmes and improve Tswapong region football.
For his part, Confederation of African Football and elite coach educator at Botswana Football Association’s, Philemon Makhwengwe said young players imitate what their coaches were doing in and outside the field; hence coaches should portray good behaviour. He therefore encouraged coaches to use the teaching they got to teach children the right things on the field.
Gofamodimo Gabaleswe, one of the participants pointed out for Tswapong region to succeed, there should be a committee for teams in the region which would focus on evaluating what they had achieved annually and come up with ideas to improve their performance.
Gabaleswe said coaches had a lot to do to develop talent from grassroots level and ensure that young players had basic skills needed. He also said the region will start the youth league to give coaches the opportunity to prove themselves.
The league is set to start on February 22 at Palapye United grounds. ENDS
