Ministry re-structures BNYC

10 Feb 2015

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture is currently engaged in an exercise to restructure the Botswana National Youth Council (BNYC) and refocus its mandate on youth advocacy and empowerment.

This was said by the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Thapelo Olopeng, when responding to a question in Parliament from Francistown West MP, Mr Ignatius Moswaane.

Mr Olopeng said he was aware that the BNYC was experiencing challenges in fulfilling its mandate of representing the interests of the youth in general.

Therefore, this restructuring, he said was intended to re-align the operations of the BNYC and the District Youth Committees to those of his Ministry, streamline the secretariat and improve the capacity of BNYC to enable it to reach out to young people.

Mr Moswaane had wanted to know if Mr Olopeng was aware that BNYC was not fulfilling its mandate to represent the interests of the youth in general and the measures that were in place to ensure that the Council reached out to the youth. ENDS
