The Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila, has encouraged Ghanzi residents to conserve and use water sparingly.
He said this during a kgotla meeting he addressed to inform residents of Ghanzi about the mandate of his ministry as well as on services offered by the different departments under the ministry.
The minister shared information on the department of corporate services, geological services, project management unit, department of water affairs, department of mines, Botswana Oil and Okavango Diamond Company .
Mr Mokaila also updated the residents on the issues surrounding water reticulation in Kuke and Meriting ward in Ghanzi Township. He also explained on the continued efforts made by government to make water and power supply adequate in Botswana.
In their comments, residents decried of delay in electricity connections in their homesteads despite having settled their electricity connections charges fully.
One of the residents, Ms Mmadikwalo Segolouwane expressed concern over hefty water bills they incurred from Water Utilities Corporation. She suggested that all services that are rendered by Water Utilities Corporation be transferred back to the department of Water Affairs.
Responding to their concerns, Minister Mokaila assured the residents that his ministry is striving to achieve service excellence in all its departments.
Meanwhile, Minister attended a project handing over ceremony where ten beneficiaries were given water pipes and later on he went to Kgaphamadi and Ghanzi primary schools where his ministry donated stationery. ENDS
