Ghanzi was in 2012 identified to benefit from the OlympAfrica International Foundation for the construction of a basic sport facility inclusive of a football pitch, dirt athletics track, office, storage and ablution facilities, the Minister of Youth, Sport and Culture, Mr Thapelo Olopeng has said. 

He said the project could not proceed at the time because the funding from the organisation was not sufficient. 

Mr Olopeng said the project was being resuscitated and contact had been made with OlympAfrica with a view to secure funds and they have indicated funding was likely to be only available in 2007. 

He however said the government planned to build a mini stadium in Ghanzi during the next National Development Plan (NDP).  Mr Olopeng was responding to a question from Ghanzi North MP, Noah Salakae who wanted to know the status of the project. ENDS
