216 teachers need accommodation

08 Feb 2015

There are 216 teachers from primary schools in Gaborone who require accommodation from Gaborone City Council (GCC), Parliament has heard.

Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane said his ministry through Gaborone City Council is currently constructing 37 teachers housing units under the Primary Schools Backlog Eradication Programme and the houses are expected to be completed by June 2015.

In addition, he said other 14 teachers houses would be provided in the financial year 2015/16 and the remainder would be catered for in succeeding financial years, funds permitting.

He was responding to the question from the Member of Parliament for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa who had wanted the minister to state the number of teachers currently without accommodation in Gaborone primary schools and plans in place to address the issue of accommodation for teachers in Gaborone.
