BAA to elect new leadership
05 Feb 2015
Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) goes to the polls in Mogoditshane this weekend.
The Saturday annual general meeting (AGM) would have to ensure that elected office bearers hold office for four years. Since the association’s constitutional elections in 2011, there were resignations year in year out, which resulted in multiple regimes in just four years.
According to the BAA constitution, elections were supposed to be held every four years, but this was not the case. In 2011, Moses Bantsi was enthroned president and lasted for only a year. His successor, Thari Mooketsi, took over in 2012 until last year when he was ousted from the committee following emergency elections.
Bantsi once again assumed the throne at the emergency polls and he would seek to defend his title on Saturday when he faces former treasurer Paphane Botlhale and athletics enthusiast and former coach Adam Letham.
Incumbent vice president ,Glody Dube, has been once again nominated for the vice presidency seat and he would face Kenneth Kikwe. In the race for secretary general (SG) is the former secretary general, Legojane Kebaitse who resigned in 2012. He stands for the position with Tshepo Kelaotswe.
The vice secretary general seat has three candidates, the incumbent Olebogeng Oitebetse, Phemelo Matome and Annah Madisa.
BAA mouthpiece, Ipolokeng Ramatshaba who is one of the three committee members that stayed put when everyone was resigning last year will once again stand for the post of publicity secretary.
He is challenged by former vice president Rowland Masalila while the treasurer position is contested for by the current treasurer Brian Mosweu, Victor Watshipi and Raymond Phale.
Standing for the additional member seats are, Mompati Ngwako, Moses Raphutshe, Masego Ramotlhagodi, William Mokwena and David Mangogola.
The AGM starts at 8 at Big Five Lodge. ends
