The battle for the be Mobile Premier League title may be compelling with three heavyweights in contention, but the fight to avoid relegation is as fierce.
With the league campaign half way through, the excitement has reached fever pitch with shocking results coming out after every league encounter. At the top, bitter rivals Mochudi Centre Chiefs and Township Rollers are tied neck to neck on 40 points with the former enjoying a six-goal difference cushion.
At the other end of the table, at least seven teams are involved in a fierce battle for survival with rock bottom placed Letlapeng Sporting club seemingly sinking deeper.
Rejuvenated youthful side Notwane put up a brave performance against visiting Extension Gunners at the SSKB stadium on Sunday afternoon to move two steps up the dreaded axe position.
Buoyed by the presence of at least five new and exciting faces in their starting eleven Ma-cat, as Notwane are affectionately known displayed a polished performance to the dismay of throngs of Gunners supporters who came to witness their team’s second consecutive loss.
Notwane’s red hot Zambian import, Zebron Njobvu scored the only goal of the game and promises to be the team’s future prospect hot on the heels of former Zambian goal poacher, Masauso Tembo. Gunners came into the weekend’s game without three of their key players in Monageng Thaele, Moemedi Moatlhaping and Topo Piet.
Piet is serving one game suspension while Thaele and Moatlhaping are nursing injuries.
However, the Peleng glamour boys have unearthed a raw gem in the mould of Bonno Mosia. The lanky creative midfielder has a striking resembles to Dirang Moloi’s play and his pin point passing and ball wizardry will come in handy for the depleted Mapantsula midfield.
Sankoyo Bush Bucks shocked Gaborone United with a two nil win in Maun on Saturday. Moyagoleele were eyeing a top four bracket but were sadly overtaken by Orapa United despite their draw to ECCO City Greens. It does not rain but pours for Letlapeng Sporting Club’s new mentor, Daniel ‘Chicco’ Nare as he received another baptism of fire from FC Satmos. Chicco’s charges have managed to collect a paltry 8 points from their 18 league games played so far.
Motlakase, who are slowly moving up the ladder of life were held to a two all draw by Selebi Phikwe based Nico United who are also fighting for survival. ENDS
