District No.8 Police headquarters in NDP 11
04 Feb 2015
The proposed construction of No.8 District Headquarters in Letlhakane has been resubmitted for consideration in NDP11 because it was not implemented in NDP10 due to the economic downturn.
This was said by Minister of Defense Justice and Security, Mr Shaw Kgathi on February 3 in response to a question by Boteti East MP, Mr Setlhomo Lelatisitswe, who had wanted an update on the status of District No.8 Headquarters and Letlhakane Police Station.
Mr Kgathi said Letlhakane Police Station, which also serves as District No. 8 headquarters, currently operates in a space comprising eight offices which he said had proven inadequate in view of customer pull for its service as a police station serving a local community as well as a policing district community.
He said this situation was expected to be improved by the construction of the proposed No. 8 District Headquarters. On issues of residential accommodation he said, there were 36 police houses and 21 rented houses which are occupied by 80 officers on a shared basis.
He said the challenge of accommodation was expected to be addressed by the construction of the proposed 28 housing units during the current plan period.
Regarding Fleet he said, there are eight serviceable motor vehicles, 11 at Central Transport Organisation awaiting maintenance and repair and 13 which have been boarded adding that efforts are being made to address issues of vehicle maintenance and replacement of those boarded across the police Department as a whole.
