Adhere to public service standards

04 Feb 2015

All government ministries and departments are required to not only display customer service standards but to also monitor and adhere to them.

The Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale, said this when responding to a question in Parliament Tuesday, February 3.

Mr Molale said his ministry undertook assessment of ministries' performance on a quarterly basis to check compliance. He said the ministries also reported on how they were adhering to the standards at their quarterly briefs to the President.

Furthermore, he said the Government Implementation and Coordination Office (GICO) monitored on how satisfactorily the ministries did their work. He however conceded that  a lot more needed to be done in order to meet these standards. Mr Molale said for this reason process reengineering had also been installed as one of the key reforms geared towards improving performance.

The  Francistown West MP, Mr Ignitius Moswaane had asked  if the minister was aware that since 2011, most government institutions had ignored Public Service Standards. He also wanted to know what is being done to measure the performance of the public service. ENDS
