New primary school Mogoditshane for NDP 11
04 Feb 2015
The Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Mr Slumber Tsogwane, has said a new primary school will be constructed in Mogoditshane in the next National Development Plan (NDP 11) to cater for additional classes.
Answering a question from Mogoditshane MP, Mr Sedirwa Kgoroba, the minister said schools in the areas including Nkoyaphiri Primary School had an enrolment above the prescribed maximum hence the need to construct another school.
He said Nkoyaphiri School had an enrolment of 1 038 pupils above the prescribed number of 880 in a fully-fledged school and there were 28 streams against the existing 20 classrooms.
The Revised National Policy on Education advocated for 22 classrooms and the minister said therefore two classrooms would be constructed at the school. “However, this means that the excess six classes would therefore have to be accommodated through the construction of a new school,” he said.
Minister Tsogwane said the backlog of classrooms, teachers’ quarters and water closets would be addressed during NDP 11 through construction of a new primary school which will also be catering for other schools in the area that face a problem of over enrollment.
Statistics provided by the minister shows that there are 30 additional classrooms needed in the constituency to relief the five primary schools being Nkoyaphiri, Moamogwe, Mogoditshane, Lerisane and Solomon Dihutso.
MP Kgoroba had asked the minister if he was aware that eight classes at Nkoyaphiri primary school have no classrooms and wanted to know if there are any plans to address the situation. ENDS
