04 Feb 2015

Police in Masunga are investigating two incidents in which some goods were destroyed by fire in Masunga and Nlapkhwane recently.

Speaking during an interview, Assistant Superintendent Thuso Basuti of Masunga Police Station said they received a report on  February 1 that household goods, among them furniture, clothing and food had caught fire in a one-roomed house at Manyanda ward in Masunga.

He said the house owner had managed to move some of the stuff to another house in the yard adding however that the next day, they received yet another report that the goods that had been moved had also caught fire and burnt.

Assistant superintendent Basuti noted that so far they had not established what the cause of the fire could have been. He said the value of the lost goods was in the region of P10 000.

In yet another fire incident, ASP Basuti said a three-roomed house also caught fire in Nlapkhwane on February 2.

He said the information they received was that a nine year-old child who was in the house had left a candle burning when going to sleep at a different house within the yard and that suspicions were that it was the same candle that caused the fire.

Of the three rooms, only one was affected, ASP Basuti said pegging the value of the damaged goods at just over P17 000. He however explained that in both incidents, there were no injuries or fatalities recorded.ENDS
