Organisers to hold Sheerwood Market Day monthly

03 Feb 2015

Organisers of the Sheerwood Market Day have decided to hold the event every month in ordert to help small businesses, which are struggling to penetrate the market.

In an interview, one of the organisers, Ms Kay Ferguson said there were many people from farms and villages near the Sheerwood area who had various talents to produce hand made goods.

She said they had however built a permanent market building for this purpose so that it could be easy for them to show and sell their products that include; handmade jewelry, bags, shoes, knitwear, homemade jams, fresh produce, and plants.

The Sheerwood Market Day started in June last year and, according to the organisers, it was a great opportunity for the community to showcase the local craftwork.

Ms Ferguson said those who would want to come and sell their products at the market would have to make their own arrangement at the end of every month because there are a lot of people who pass through Sheerwood and thus a potential market.

She said the end of the month would be a good time for tourists to purchase Botswana crafts and food because they would be coming to Botswana or going to South Africa through the Martins Drift boarder post.

She said since the market day started, they have been able to bring the community of Sheerwood together and some of the local craftsmen and women have already found a market for their products.

She pleaded with the leadership of different villages to promote the market to their people so that they can participate. The big market day has been planned for June 28. ENDS
