Kgatleng takes services to people
02 Feb 2015
Principal district officer for development in Kgatleng District, Ms Maitumelo Maemo says open day activities are important in bringing services closer to the people.
In an interview, Ms Maemo indicated that the district administration carried out open days quarterly where all government departments and parastatals participated and assisted Batswana.
She added that the quarterly activities also reduced numbers of people travelling long distances for services. “This is also the time when customers inquire and understand government programmes and other services provided without worrying about time,” she added.
As a result, Ms Maemo encouraged other stakeholders to participate in open day activities to explain services they offered to Batswana. Councillor Steven Makhura of Malolwane, who is also Kgatleng District council deputy chairperson, reiterated that open days were critical to people who lived far from government administration offices.
Cllr Makhura also hailed the initiative as important, particularly that it included Omang and immigration and Water Utilities Corporation (WUC), among others.
Thus, he encouraged the District Commissioner’s office to improve on coordination and publicity of the open day so that people from nearer villages were also serviced. ENDS
