Jwaneng plan includes church enclave
29 Jan 2015
Jwaneng Town Council deputy town clerk, Mr Leano Mokete, has told residents that the town’s current development plan encompasses a church enclave.
Responding to residents’ comments during a kgotla meeting addressed by the MP for Jwaneng-Mabutsane recently, Mr Mokete said even though there were numerous complaints about church plots, government acknowledged the role played by churches hence a considerable number of plots had been identified for church buildings.
He said they were in consultation with the Ministers Fraternal to come up with ways of developing the area since it was still undeveloped. Mr Mokete was responding to Pastor Mothusinyane Molefe’s concern that shortage of church plots in Jwaneng was a great concern.
He said the government was not doing enough to acknowledge the big role played by churches in moulding the society. He told the MP for Jwaneng/Mabutsane, Mr Shawn Ntlhaile that only four wards out of a total of eight wards have church plots.
Pastor Molefe complained that the tender process for civic and community plots disadvantages churches as priority was given to profit making organisations.
Meanwhile, Mr Mokete was optimistic that the construction of the Jwaneng-Sese road would be funded in the next financial year after being deferred in the past due to financial constraints. He noted that in the meantime, continuous maintenance was ongoing to improve the condition of the road. ENDS
