University recognises duo's hard work

Botswana International University of Science and Technology has rewarded two guidance and counselling teachers from Seepapitso and Moshupa senior schools, Ms Grace Kutoro and Mr Olefile Sebetela respectively for their outstanding performance.

In an interview after the third annual guidance and counselling open day, Mr Sebetela who got an award for emerging guidance and counsellor teacher said he scooped the award due to his passion of giving back to the community. He works with Moshupa community and gives guidance and counselling to students in his school.

Furthermore, Mr Sebetela said he was in the cluster policing committee as the vice chairperson to help fight against crime and in the process creating a safe and secure environment.

In addition to his teaching profession, he hosted open days and boot camps, where Moshupa residents came together to be taught basic life skills, and also gave guidance and counselling to those who abused alcohol and drugs.

He said he was also continuing with volunteering work in different organisations such as Baikamogedi, an HIV organisation and DAMSC. He further revealed that he was the founder of the Bana ba mmu centre for hope, a non-profit making organisation that took care of orphans and under privileged children.

For her part, Ms utoro who was awarded the guidance and counsellor project of the year expressed her gratitude after being recognised as one of the best guidance and counselling teachers.

Ms Grace said she was raising funds for one of the students who had a kidney failure. She said the project of raising the funds started towards end of 2011 and they were able to come up with the money for the transplant in 2012, but the young boy ended up losing his life.

She dedicated the award to her late husband and the late beneficiary of her project. Despite losing a life that she tried to save, Ms Kutoro said she was more determined to continue helping other people who would need her help. ENDS
