Gumare police investigate murder
26 Jan 2015
Gumare police are investigating the death of a 19-year-woman who was stabbed with a sharp object at Bothatogo ward.
In an interview, station commander, Superintendant Phillip Lopang, said the incident was reported to them on Saturday (January 24) morning by one resident.
Superintendent Lopang said the woman, who was stabbed below the left breast and on the head, was certified dead at the hospital. He said the family of the deceased had been notified but no arrests had been made.
Supt Lopang said the allegedly five months pregnant woman was walking with her 25-year-old boyfriend from a recreational area in Mopako to her boyfriend’s home.
Superintendent Lopang said the two were attacked by an unknown assailant near an area commonly known as Accord. He said the assailant allegedly threw stones and bottles at them before the two parted ways running for their lives.
He stated that people in the neighbourhood were allegedly awakened by the screams of the woman and they found her lying in a pool of blood.
He also urged members of the community, particularly young people to minimise or avoid staying at recreational areas for extended hours noting that was risky as they could encounter such incidents.
Superintendent Lopang also applauded Bothatogo residents for their efforts during the incident. He said investigations were on-going and he pleaded with the community to help them find the perpetrator. ENDS
