Computers to test drivers
22 Jan 2015
The Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Tshenolo Mabeo, will today (January 23) perform the ground breaking ceremony for the computerisation of driver testing grounds at Maruapula in Gaborone.
Currently, the driver testing grounds at Maruapula and elsewhere in the country are manned by officers and hence driver testing is done manually.
A press release from the transport ministry stated that the current arrangement has, more often than not, resulted in serious backlog, corruption and customer complaints.
“The computerisation of testing grounds will mitigate this problem by producing competent drivers who contribute to a reduction in road traffic accidents, significantly it will improve road safety management,” stated the release.
Maximum use of this facility would also reduce the waiting period and backlog, which the department was facing. As the testing would be automated, there will be less customer complaints and transparency and fairness would be enhanced. The project will be piloted in Gaborone and rolled out to other parts of the country. ENDS
