BFA VP consults regions

Botswana Football Association (BFA), vice president-technical, Stephen Phetlhe says his department has started consulting with regions as a way of finding out impediments to the progress of Botswana football.

Phetlhe said in an interview that they started their consultation with the southern block last weekend.He said they would be in Serowe for the eastern block over the weekend. Also, he said, they would visit Orapa and Tsabong.The whole purpose of the tour, he said, was to introspect and map way forward and at the same time launch the Under 15 league.

During his visits, he said, he would engage regional chairpersons, secretaries, regional coaches and women representatives.Phetlhe said some of the key issues to be discussed included turning regional football as hubs for development, setting age restrictions in regional football as way of promoting youth participation and promoting women football.

Also, he said, they would evaluate coaching and referee curriculum courses, setting standards for formations of new clubs and the effects of politics in football.After the regional visits, he said he would consult first division and premier league.

“I intend to finish all this by February end in which I will compile a report with recommendation for National Executive Committee,” he said. 

“We should understand that the route taken is not short cut and we appeal to all to be patient as we will make informed decision at the end of this exercise,” he said.

He said Botswana football needed a serious overhaul, and the time is now to make changes. ENDS
