34 government reporters resign

15 Mar 2013

Parliament has been told that 34 reporters resigned from Information and Broadcasting services departments since 2009 to transfer to other ministries or join private organisations.

Answering a question in Parliament on March 14, Minister for Presidential Affairs and Public Administration, Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi said their reasons for resignation and transfer varied. Some said they were after a higher pay while others sought change of environment.

He, however, said this had affected productivity at government media houses because it created staff shortages in the news gathering and processing areas.

Mr Masisi however said the ministry was planning to undertake organisation review exercise to determine the most appropriate and practicable solution to this challenge.

Chobe MP, Mr Gibson Nshimwe had asked the minister to state the number of journalists and reporters in the said departments who have resigned to join other ministries since 2009 and also the reasons behind such resignations.

He had also wanted to know how this has affected productivity in the two departments and how the minister intended to address the situation. ENDS
