Opt for early maturing seeds - MoA
13 Jan 2015
The Ministry of Agriculture says arable farmers must plant early maturing seeds, being hybrid or open pollinated seeds, this ploughing season because of uneven distribution of rainfall.
A statement released on Monday, January 12 explained that the move would help farmers avoid loss of harvest due to lack of enough time for the crops to develop and mature.
The ministry also encouraged farmers to use modern farming techniques such as row planting, use of fertilizers, herbicides and taking care of their fields.
It further reminded farmers that the ploughing/planting season ends on January 31 for the southern region and February 15 for northern part of the country. ENDS
