Juniors set for regional tennis tournament

Twenty-two (22) young Batswana tennis players will face their counterparts from the rest of Southern Africa in a nine-day regional tournament in Gaborone starting today, January 9.
The ITF/ CAT Southern African Zonal Championships, which is hosted at the National Tennis Centre is will end on Sunday January 18. Competition will be in the Under-12, 14 and 16 age categories for both the singles and doubles.
According to information from Botswana Tennis Association (BTA) the best players from eleven countries in the Southern Africa region will participate in the tournament.
BTA junior technical manager, Trevor Modise said South Africa, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Swaziland, Angola, Mauritius, Madagascar and Mozambique will take part.
Modise said as hosts, Botswana will field the largest contingent of players. They include Thato Holmes, Marang Makolo, Tshepo Mosarwa and Tsholofelo and Tshegofatso Tsiang.
“The team will be looking to continue where they left off after a superb performance in the ITF/CAT South Central Junior circuit in May,” said Modise. He said the tournament serve as qualifiers for the African Championship that would be held in Tunisia. ENDS
