Ministry to fund more youth projects

The Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture intends to 26 youth projects through the Youth Development Fund (YDF) in Mahalapye Sub-District this year.
This follows funding of 43 youth projects in the first batch last year. Ministry of Youth, Sport and Culture Principal Programme Officer 1 in Mahalapye Sub-District Mr Thulani Caiphas said in an interview said that at Shoshong three projects will be funded to the tune of P280 000, Mahalapye West, ten projects will be funded for P976 000 while 13 youth projects will be funded with P1 264 000 in Mahalapye East.
Furthermore he said the adjudication process for youth projects in Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency is ongoing and it is expected to be completed by 20 January.
“Due to the high youth mobilization we carried out in Mahalapye Sub-District we received a high number of applications and as a result we have requested for additional funding to fund additional deserving 12 projects to the tune of P1 165 000,” he said.
Mr Caiphas explained that each constituency is allocated P2 million and the maximum funding an individual youth can get is P100 000 and P450 000 for Group Industry consisting of 5 to 10 youths. He added that Mahalapye Sub-District he said did not get any group industry application this year.
He said the Ministry of Youth, sports and Culture does not approve any funding, adding that the final approval is done by the DEDC which is composed of experts in various fields.
The recent funding approval brings the total number of funded projects in Mahalapye Sub-District to 69 in the 2014/2015 financial year excluding the last batch in Sefhare/Ramokgonami constituency where adjudication process is still ongoing. ENDS
