29 Dec 2014
Mmankgodi-based side, Black Forest are this year’s Thamaga Christmas Charity tournament champions after beating Thamaga Shooting Stars 3-0 in a final that was played on Sunday December 28. The game started on a high tempo with both teams showing their determination of winning the game.
However, bad decision making from both side disadvantaged them more especially in the first stanza resulting in the game going into recess with the score board reading zero.
After half time, Green Forest came more rejuvenated as they were pilling more pressure on their opponents and on the 53rd minute of game, Sadat Sinare opened the score board . On the 60th minute, Black Forest made a good run while their opponents were still ball watching and Tiro Pheresi who was a marvel to watch capitalised on his opponent’s weakness and scored a cracker to make it 2-0.
The goal caused confusion on the Thamaga based team, given that they did not want to be humiliated in front of their 12th player.
However, their defender committed an error in the box and Forest were awarded a penalty on the 63rd minute of the game and Sinare utilised that opportunity to put the game far beyond Thamaga Shooting stars making it three Nil.
Sanyane Celtics finished on position three and position four went to Tourism and the tournament organiser, Tiroyaone ‘Tyro’ Lepotokisi told BOPA that the tournament went well.
Even their peaceful march aimed at sensitising Thamaga youth about the dangers of violence and crime went well and was confident that the message has been well received.
After the match, different speakers amongst them FIFA Development Officer, Ashford Mamelodi, Zebras Captain Joel Mogorosi and South Africa-based Modiri Marumo encouraged youth to desist from crime and do something that can benefit them and the society. ENDS
