President Lt General Seretse Khama Ian Khama has encouraged Batswana to come together and help in nation building. The President said if all Batswana could come together, they would also be aware of what Christmas day is meant to be, adding that it symbolises the notion of giving.
Speaking during his annual Christmas party to children in Serowe, President Khama said Christmas day is a time for give presents and people need to put aside their own self-interest and remember the less fortunate of their fellow citizens. He said just like in the Bible, Christmas day is a time of recognising others by showering them with gifts.
He further said people should remember the nation’s principles which were used like the legal, religious and the cultural constitutions which made this country. He said the religious and the cultural constitutions which made this country should always be remembered by many to build a compassionate and caring nation.
He noted that people should take these teachings to heart, abide by them to curb many social ills which affect the nation. Further, the President said he wished to see Batswana being a very obedient, caring and disciplined nation.President Khama said many people engage in bad things during this time of the year; they break the law, abuse alcohol and some to an extent of abusing their spouses.
He said if everybody could come on board, Batswana would be a united and proud nation. Earlier on, a day before Christmas day, President Khama also donate food hampers to 20 needy people in Serowe, ten of them from Serowe North while another ten from Serowe South constituencies.
He noted that just as much as people would be celebrating the birth of Christ, all people should at least have something to celebrate for because this day was for all just as Jesus died for all. ENDS
