Ignoring liquor operating hours offence
18 Dec 2014
Letlhakeng Sub-district Council bye-law officer, Mr Ramokhutshwane Metsiapula, has threatened action against operators who disregard liquor operating hours.
Addressing a kgotla meeting at Monwane on December 17, Mr Metsiapula warned that those caught violating laws that regulate selling of liquor would be liable to a fine of up to P500 or imprisonment for a term not exceeding six months or both.
Meanwhile, he also urged parents to be exemplary to their children and stop drinking and smoking in their presence.
He said it was shameful for some parents to drink themselves to a stupor or end up quarrelling and fighting in front of their children. Mr Metsiapula condemned such behavior saying it would have negative influence on children.
For his part, Sergeant Elliot Lepono said home brews contributed to the escalating crime in Monwane. He said blamed such on alcohol brewers who operated without a time limit thereby encouraging people to drink excessively.
Sergeant Lepono said licensed liquor operators were also a concern since they usually violate operating hours and that some of them were uncooperative when the police warn them against such.
He said such perpetrators were the very same people who were reluctant to attend kgotla meetings where the matters were discussed. ENDS
