Ministry fails to provide all beneficiaries with private clothing

14 Mar 2013

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development, through Hukuntsi sub-district, has not been able to provide all 826 registered needy students, remote area communities and orphans with private clothing.

Minister Peter Siele said this in response to a parliamentary question from Kgalagadi North MP, Mr Phillip Khwae on March 13.

He said 676 beneficiaries were budgeted for this financial year, hence a shortfall of 150.

“From these 676 beneficiaries, 524 beneficiaries have already been provided with private clothing and the remaining 152 will be provided with clothing before March 31, 2013” said Mr Siele.

Minister Siele said in the coming financial year (2013/14), the ministry had budgeted for 111 beneficiaries, while private clothing would also be procured for the 150 beneficiaries who could not be catered for during this financial year due to budgetary constraints.

Meanwhile, Mr Phillip Khwae had wanted to know whether the Hukuntsi Sub-district Council had been able to supply all needy students and orphans with private clothing.

He had also asked if there had been any challenges in the provision of private clothing and if so, what measures the minister was putting in place to address these challenges. ENDS
