Ministry staff houses Mmankgodi resident

18 Dec 2014

The Ministry of Lands and Housing staff has handed over their 12th house since President Lt Gen. Seretse Kham Ian Khama made an appeal to companies and individuals to build houses for the needy.

The house was handed over to an elderly resident of Mmankgodi, Ms Motsei Machina on December 17. When handing over the house, Minister of Lands and Housing, Mr Prince Maele commended the ministry’s staff for their gesture.

He said the staff was living the ideals of vision 2016 and had heeded the call by President Khama to help those in need. Furthermore, Mr Maele said his ministry had shown to have compassion and love for the community members.

He said although they were giving to the community, this did not imply that the staff members had plenty in their possession, but they were rather moved by the spirit of love and care for the elderly and other community members.

He said they had built other houses in places such as Gabane, Matsilotje, Gantsi, Maun, Taung, Artesia, Lesoma and Lentsweletau . Furthermore, he added that three more houses were under construction and he hoped that they will be handed over in the not so distant future.

Minister Maele further cautioned residents against selling land, adding that the country is experiencing a high number of people who develop their residential plots to sell them and later claim that they have no land.

Hence, he pleaded with Ms Machina not to be tempted and sell the house although it belongs to her, adding that for her to live a dignified life she needs a dwelling place. The area Member of Parliament, Major Gen Pius Mokgware also commended the staff members for living the mission of their ministry of providing sustainable human settlement.

He said the staff members were moved by love and encouraged the residents to emulate the ministry and also give back to those in need. Major Gen Mokgware said every person has a role play in the society which will in turn create a legacy for such individual.

Further, he asked Minister Maele to address land allocation issues affecting the residents. Meanwhile, the overwhelmed Ms Machina thanked those who have built her the house. ENDS
