A social club in Tutume, Goledzwa Football Club intends treating residents of Tutume and surrounding villages to a fun filled festive period.
In an interview, the club’s publicity secretary, Christopher Nyanga said the club had made it a tradition to always come up with activities that would ignite the festive holidays in Tutume.
Nyanga said these include a beauty pageant dubbed Miss Tutume Goledzwa 2014, which would be held on Christmas Eve. He said there would be a football tournament also known as Goledzwa football, which would kick-start on Christmas day and last in New Year’s day.
Furthermore, Nyanga said six football teams from different wards within the village would battle it out for the grand prize which amounts to P12 000. He also noted that the club members would also visit Tutume Primary Hospital to donate some presents to patients.
“Although the ideal reason for these activities is to light up the Christmas spirit,” Nyanga said the other intention includes raising funds to make contributions to the Tutume main kgotla project.
He further said they appreciated the different kind of support they have received from their sponsors, adding that the club has been hosting the activities since its inception nine years back.
The chairperson of the Tutume Umbrella Village Development Committee (VDC), Kopano Tamari also commended the club’s efforts. He noted that the activities do not provide entertainment only, but also help to curb criminal activities. ENDS
