Kanye Seventh Day Adventist College of Nursing's quality assurance and curriculum coordinator has commended college staff for living up to their true Christian values and championing the compassion movement.
Ms Cherryl Marquez said this during the distribution of groceries to needy families by the hospital’s General Nursing Programme in Kanye on December 12. She described compassion as awareness of the suffering of another accompanied by doing something about it to effect positive change.
“As a hospital whose mission is to emulate Christ, the gesture and ministration by staff to the poor is befitting. Christ was always moved with compassion to reach out and care for others and as his disciples we should do the same.
”She stated the goodwill gesture which will linger in the minds of the beneficiaries for some time also has a reciprocal effect as research has shown that givers do not only live long but lead happy lives.
The College Deputy Principal, Ms Lilian Segwagwe concurred with Ms Marquez saying besides being driven by their Christian values, the school of nursing also has a responsibility to rally behind the national vision in this instance the pillar of a Compassionate, Just and Caring nation.
Ms Segwagwe urged the beneficiaries never to give up in life but to aspire to lead better lives. She said it was particularly important for those physically fit never to sit idle but to work hard and earn their living.
“Do not despair in life. Dream more and change your mind set because you too have what it takes to be successful in life,” she said. Pastor MacDonald Mudukanele said giving as espoused by the word of God is one of the many ways that guarantees followers of Christ everlasting life.
He therefore called on Christians elsewhere to ensure that they remember their fellow human beings in their everyday lives. For her part, Acting Head of Department for General Nursing Programme, Ms Antonia Dube said as an establishment that deals with the community on a daily base through a number of programs the school felt compelled to intervene and contribute in its small way by way of giving to the needy.
She said the school was particularly honored and humbled by the three families for having acceded to the gifts. Ms Dube who is also a Senior Lecturer at the institution called on co-workers to come up with sustainable ways that could help beneficiaries stand on their own even in the absence of the assistance from the college.
