Moshebe defies odds

15 Dec 2014

Although Lokgwabe-born Mr Kgotlayame Moshebe could not get a stable and permanent job to sustain his life except only for humble piece jobs, he never gave up on searching for whatever could sustain his life.

As years passed by with the 45-year-old Mr Moshebe still stacked with the burden of poverty and hopelessness, he decided to do something about his life and the idea of a business of his own was never out of his mind.

Having grown up in a traditional family where turning leather into traditional ropes and mats (diphate), even at a tender age, was the order of the day, he revisited the calling, now in his middle age.

Mr Moshebe heard about poverty eradication programmes courtesy of the government early last year and he never wasted time as he immediately set out to seek such a help, and, by God’d luck, he was sponsored to undergo a leather tanning course.

The course fuelled his desire to start his own business, and, believing that big things begin small and that acorns become oak trees, he opted to run his own business and credit must be given to the poverty eradication programme for purchasing and providing him with startup materials.

He then used the knowledge he attained during the leather turning classes to make or sew leather hats, sandals, belts, among other things of commercial value.

Mr Moshebe’s business is based at Lokgwabe but because he is still new in the industry he sometimes carries his products in a bag to sell around the village and beyond.

He encourages young people who want to start up their own business to step up with a brilliant incisive mind and seek assistance where they do not understand. ENDS
