Borolong border issue on commission agenda
15 Dec 2014
The issue of opening a border post or entry or exit point to cater for villages of Mmakgori, Leporung, Tshidilamolomo and Mabule has been the subject of discussion in meetings of Botswana/South Africa Bi-National Commission on Cooperation for the last two years.
The Minister of Youth Sport and Culture, Mr Thapelo Olopeng said this when responding to a question in parliament from Goodhope-Mabule MP, Mr James Mathokgwane, on behalf of labour and home affairs minister, Mr Edwin Batshu.
In the last meeting of the B-National Commission held in November 17 to 20 in Gaborone, Mr Olopeng said it was noted that the officials from the concerned ministries from both countries; those of home affairs, had conducted a joint survey on the feasibility of establishing a port of entry at Tshidilamolomo.
“The analysis of the results of the survey is ongoing and the outcome will inform the two governments on the way forward,” he added.
Mr Mathokgwane wanted to know whether the Ministry of Labour and Home Affairs had any plans to open a border post between Leporung and Mabule villages taking into consideration the distance and bad roads between these villages and the next point of entry. ENDS
