14 Mar 2013

At the stage of implementation of Cabinet Directive CAB 15 (B)/ 2011, 924 BDF personnel were paid, 682 of whom were paid erroneously.

Minister of Defence, Justice and Security Mr Dikgakgamatso Seretse has told Parliament that consultations were on-going with respect to relevant remedial action which would be according to the provision of Finance and Audit Act (CAP 54:01) and its Financial Instructions and Procedures Section 1608(4)P of 1993.

Mr Seretse said, “effectively the remedial envisaged is the recoveries from those erroneously paid.”

He said 242 BDF members were being paid as per the Cabinet Directive a total amount of P2 816 843, while 682 members were erroneously paid an amount of P6 168 659.

He told the house that when he answered a parliamentary question no. 220 on February 5 this year, he indicated that the de-linking implementation was halted so that it could be implemented as it was approved through a Cabinet Directive.

Mr Mmolotsi had asked the minister to give an update on the delinking exercise at the BDF. ENDS
