Chiefs claim GU scalp

David Makakaba and Keabetswe Jenamiso gave Mochudi Centre Chiefs a 2-0 premier league victory over Gaborone United in Molepolole on Friday (December 12).
Magosi’s win extended their winning run in the be Mobile Premier League to three matches in a row and allowed them to continue putting pressure on the log leaders, Township Rollers.
Chiefs’ five man midfield dominated play in the first half with the likes of Lemponye Tshireletso, Makakaba and Pontsho Moloi assisting lone striker Onalethata Tshekiso to find openings in the uncertain opposition defence.
Lesego Galenamotlhale fired a warning shot as early as the second minute after receiving a pass from Tshireletso. Tshireletso gave GU right-back Gobonyeone Selefa plenty of problems with his pace and trickery throughout the match.
Makakaba put Chiefs in front from their second clear-cut opportunity when his acrobatic effort from a loose ball found the net after Moloi’s corner kick was not cleared by the GU defence.
GU failed to trouble Chiefs keeper, Mompoloki Sephekolo, in the first half as Ntesang Simanyana and Abednico Powell failed to click with Kgololo Kgogobi and Mandla Mgadla in the wings. The lack of cohesion by the Reds midfield limited supply to Namibian striker, Benson Shilongo.
A 20 yard shot by Simanyana which was brilliantly saved by Sephekolo, and a free-kick by Kgogobi which landed on the roof of the net were the only forms of real threat on Chiefs goal in the first half.
GU goalkeeper Goitseone Phoko dived low on two occasions to keep his team in the match after Tshireletso managed to outpace Selefa in the first half. But Magosi doubled their lead on the stroke of halftime through Jenamiso. ENDS
