Findings on the ownership of the piece of land housing Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) and the Department of Water Affairs (DWA) in Kasane have shown that the plot belonged to water affairs department.

Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources, Mr Kitso Mokaila told Parliament on Wednesday that plot 2181, which is situated along the Chobe River, did not have a title deed like all government properties, but instead it had a Certificate of Registered State Title.

Mr Mokaila said since the property was not privately owned, the issue of lease agreement on the land with government did not arise, and as such, issues of rental payments become irrelevant.

The minister was responding to a question from the MP for Chobe, Mr Gibson Nshimwe who had asked the minister to update the house on the findings of the investigations on the ownership of the piece of land housing WUC and the DWA in Kasane as per assurance when answering Question NO. 346 of February 7, 2012.  ENDS
