Teams fight to stay afloat

11 Dec 2014

As the holiday break approaches, the be Mobile
Premier League continues for yet another weekend and teams enter the
battle ground knowing that maximum points are important going into the second
round.

Some teams
are fighting hard to gain points in order to stay at the top while others are giving away the
very same points that can help them avoid relegation. This week’s
fixtures begin with the biggest game of the weekend when Mochudi Centre Chiefs meet Gaborone United at Molepolole Sports Complex tonight (December 12) at 7pm.

Both teams
might be in the top four bracket but their match at this stage would determine who
remains in the bracket before the end of the first round.

Magosi
, currently lie on top of GU with 27 points, and only need a win in Molepolole to
consolidate their position and hopefully give them a more favourable position
going into the second round.

But GU, which
are still oozing with confidence after beating Gunners last weekend know that a
victory on home soil will see them leapfrog  their challengers and
strengthen their position in the top four.

It has been
a bizarre start for the tenure of Rahman Gumbo at Gaborone United after
concurrent defeats in the league earlier in the season, but Moyagoleele have
now hit a strong run of form, having won their recent matches including their
wins in the Mascom Top 8 Cup.

The next
match tomorrow will see Nico United host BDF XI at Selebi Phikwe Stadium at 4pm.
Both teams have had an unexpected run so far this season by losing crucial
matches and to top it all, they have recently parted ways with their coaches.

A win for
the visitors BDF XI will provide a much needed shot in the arm, and pull
Matebele back to their best form of the previous season.
As for the host, they have drawn their last game against Letlapeng and will
want to put their stamps on this tie.

Still on
Saturday, the other match will see the bottom placed Ecco City Greens face
another struggling side Letlapeng at Francistown Stadium at 4pm. After a
miserable season so far in which they managed to register one win and three draws,
Ecco are already stuck in the relegation zone as the league approaches the
second round.

They know that a win at home will redeem the damage they have
 already done.
However, Letlapeng travel to thenorth with just one major concern and will be forced to
concentrate on their defensive positioning as they look to capitalise on a
dying giant.

At the New
Lobatse Stadium, BMC will host the newcomers to the elite league Sankoyo Bush
Bucks at 4pm. BMC which have done well this season and currently lie
third behind leaders will be looking forward to keeping up with the race at the top with a home win.

The lost against a smaller side, Highlanders in the last
game they will be need to be cautious not to lose to another newcomer.

The Ngurungu side will feel they can produce an even better job in Lobatse and
upset the home crowd. They have greatly improved over the past few games and
will not feel the intimidation they would have as an underdog.

The log
leaders, Township Rollers will be aiming to continue their winning streak as
they host FC Satmos at Molepolole Sports Complex at 3:45pm.

FC Satmos
will walk into Mapalastina’s den full of opportunities and a possible unbeaten
streak to break. Rollers which is leading the log with five points have never
tasted defeat this season therefore FC Satmos will be aiming to become the
first team to beat Rollers this season in all competitions.

Rollers’ streak go as far back as last season therefore it will be almost a mission impossible
 for Satmos side. Orapa United
will host BR Highlanders at Itekeng Stadium at 4pm.

Orapa United will have to
tep up their game with respect to last weekend’s performance against Notwane
if they are to come out triumphant against the struggling Highlanders.

The other
game will see Notwane host Motlakase Power Dynamos at the SSKB Stadium at 4pm.
Both teams are jointly on 11 points separated by goal difference but that will
mean nothing as the teams fight to climb their way up away from the relegation
 axe.

On Sunday,
the only game of the day will see one of the biggest fixtures of the weekend
when Extension Gunners meet Police XI at the New Lobatse Stadium at 3:45pm.

After their
loss to GU last weekend, Gunners will aim to resume their recent fine form in
order to stand a fair chance of making it back into the top four bracket. Better
still, Police XI too have been in fine form of late therefore all will not be
 lost. ENDS
